This is worn by all officers on the back of the shoulder strap arrowhead.
Each device has a security level allowing access to certain area's.
These devices are made from German Tank Model wheels.
Up till months ago The only known Device was the Kirk and Spock's Device.
Thanks to IAWH we now have some clear pictures of other devices..
You cant see it with the K & S device but notice how everyone has small
holes for sewing them on...More to come as we find them...

Insignias

A brief history on this insignia..Back in the 80's, Paramount commissioned a company to make these
insignias..They were a combination of the original metal insignia from TMP worn By Kirk and others,
and the slightly curved delta back piece...The 2 pieces were welded together... The original  was then molded by Lincoln Enterprises...Unfortunately with technology of the time, to get it to bend to the right dimension it also bent the cheveron..BUT still accurate and the closest thing we had for 20 years...Paint scheme was almost dead on..Cheveron should have been a little darker But the gold bordering is correct..

RODD/LINCOLN  ENERPRISES

In 2005 the original maker was contracted by CostumeCostumeCostume company to do a new run of the original insignia...Not molded but from their original molds. The way it was originally made...These were going for a very high price...But looking at screen caps of TWOK were pretty awesome...Color scheme pretty dead on..The chevron should be lighter but other than that pretty awesome..still has the slightly bent delta background...

Recently in 2008, Rodd.com came out with a new insignia made from the original maker with a slight
difference..no welding..just good ole nut's and bolts holding the 2 together...Color scheme is off for the delta part..Too yellow...The cheveron is a little bit more rounded and thicker but is painted the correct color..still has the slightly curved delta shield...

NEW RODD.COM

The insignias varied...Remember the great break in at Paramount...a lot of the stuff was stolen and
many new thing needed to be re-made including the costumes..So any one of these insignias
are 100% acceptable..The new one by RODD represents the last time we see this insignia...In Generations...I got mine today 2/9/08 and the BG is in the process of being redone to the TWOK color scheme..All in all TOTALLY worth it..

(Side Notes)
Belt Buckle..there are a lot of people wondering and asking..
"So what makes one buckle different than the other?"
Well the photos below will tell it all for you..The one on the
left is cast from the original and the one on the right is what
is offered by most SciFi Stores or at conventions..obtaining
either is easy, you can purchase the one on the left through
Roddenberry.com(Lincoln) or try your local SciFi store or
nearest convention for the other..but hey..Lincoln is at
almost at every convention..

RANK

Where to start here..I do searches on eBay and other auction sites and
I am always seeing this uniform up for bid as "ORIGINALS"..Here's your
first clue..If the rank pins on the sleeve are not the same as the shoulder rank
"It's not real"..Robert Fletcher designed just 1 size rank pin..The one on the left
is again from Roddenberry.com and was molded off the original pin..the one
on the right is flat and much larger..Where this got started I don't know, but what
I do know is that there was only one pin designed and it isn't flat and over sized.

LT.COMMANDER RANK

Here is another tall tale..where this design came from I don't know..
Who ever designed it should have read Fletchers notes before doing it.
In the picture on the left we see the actual rank for Lt. Commander which
was the original design in Fletchers notes and later became Valeris's rank
in Star Trek VI..The one on the right is what has been offered way before
the rank was actually seen on film...A little research into the book would
have been great and inaccuracies would not happen.

BACK PIN

I don't even know where to comment..Somebody couldn't figure out how to
make this particular item so they made up one..First off it is called a federation
security device which allows federation personnel into secure areas and second
the pin being offered by most retailers is actually the Chief Petty Officer pin which
is actually silver not gold...

THE FINAL WORD

The only pins on this uniform that are not curved in nature are the pips and squeaks
If you buy an insignia that is flat..chances are you did not get one like the movies..
My suggestions? Try Roddenberry.com..You can not go wrong..the most accurate
pieces out there..One note..The Lt. Commander rank is my home made version..I cut
the gold pips off of the 2 extra sets I had and welded them together..There is NO known version
of this rank pin that I know of..If you really want one write Roddenberry.com and tell them.
If enough people write maybe they'll do a run for us..
